The audios on this page are from a Healing Sound Service that Shemaya did at Abundant Life Center in Vancouver, WA in November of 2006. Shaman Wolf gave a talk on The Creative Power of Sound, weaving three different creation stories from three different traditions. Shemaya brought forth what it may have sounded like at those three points of creation.

The first track is from the Christian tradition and the story of Genesis. The second track is from the Hindu tradition and the story of the great OM, of Vishnu and his servant Brahma. The third track is from the Hopi creation story Spider Woman and Tawa the Sun God. The final track, "Voice of the Shaman" is a collaboration between Mark Moerman and Shaman Wolf.

Shemaya

(SHMI-ya) Aramaic: A sacred vibration that vibrates without limit through the entire manifested cosmos; heaven.

Shemaya is a shamanic sound healing troupe whose vision is to offer shamanic sound healing for individuals, small groups, and others who may request this service. The group also supports Shaman Wolf in other shamanic services.

Shemaya focuses on awakening human life forces. Shemaya's method is to interrupt cluttering routines and establish levels of balance and harmony that allow listeners to connect with the natural web of the cosmos, and experience freer contact with the true context of their lives and environments.

Shemaya's performances begin in silence as players sense what they are to bring forth. Then comes sound—sometimes a melody, other times a rhythm on drum or rattle, even silence. Spirit-led and improvisational, what rises is powerful. The group's energy centers listeners, frees them from convention, urges them to search themselves for means to effect positive change in the world. In some situations, people are invited to enter the players' circle—to literally find their own voice, and sing it.

Shemaya's name comes from the Aramaic language. Shem can mean light, word, name, sound or atmosphere. The roots of shem, Sh and M, can mean space or movement extending from a point (Sh) that defines some specific form of existence (M). When combined with -aya, the word can mean a sacred vibration (shem) that moves without limit (-aya).

Shemaya has performed sound services at numerous churches, provided musical support for fundraisers and ritual theater, and offered individuals "sound baths" for their own personal healing. The troupe also designs shamanic sound for ceremonies, rituals, and rites of passage.
